At Cantina 1511 everything is fresh, and that is what sets us apart from a lot of our competitors. Our fish comes in daily, and everything from the chips and salsa down to the beans and rice is made fresh in our kitchen, and our new Pescado en Mojo is no exception.  The Pescado en Mojo is a fantastic light summer dish where the fish changes daily.  Today it may be Swordfish or Mahi-Mahi with their mild flavors or it could be Red Snapper with its distinctive sweet and nutty flavor. The Roasted Corn and Jalapeno Croquetas add the perfect amount of crunch to this remarkably flavorful dish.

Taste of the Nation

Last night we took part in the Taste Of The Nation event. This event gathered together the area's top chefs, restaurants and culinary schools all to raise funds to end childhood hunger in America and in Charlotte. The night was filled with samplings of great food, as well as fine wines, beers and premium spirits.  I also had the opportunity to mix my own cocktail at the Mixologist bar.  There was also a silent auction where you could bid on some great items from tickets to sporting events to gift cards for some local restaurants (I bid on the Ikea gift basket, and won).  This annual benefit for Share Our Strength’s “No Kid Hungry” campaign began in 1988. The first event raised nearly $250,000 in a single day.

At the event, we served up our Crab and Goat Cheese Guacamole as well as our Carnitas 1511; petite pork shanks, marinated then flash-fried, and topped with a salted caramel sauce. At last years Taste of the Nation, the Carnitas 1511 won “Best Hot Food”. If you have ever had them, you understand why. Chef Vince Giancarlo, Chef Sigifredo Ortiz, and East Blvd’s General Manager Vince Ponzio took the helm at the Cantina 1511 table. We also doled out samples of one of our most popular signature margaritas, the Orange Tijuana Taxi as well as our Cilantro and Serrano infused Finlandia Vodka Bloody Mary.

Thanksgiving Leftovers

Our Chefs have created a handful of dishes utilizing our “Thanksgiving leftovers”. If you haven’t fulfilled your turkey cravings Cantina 1511 has you covered. Everything from Turkey. Carnitas Tortas and Burritos filled with habanero-cranberry jam and roasted garlic mashed potatoes and topped with Homestyle chipotle gravy to the ever popular Spiced Turkey Nachos with Cranberry Orange Chutney, Avocado-Pico de Gallo and Habanero Crema.
